Doctor Who Dave Gibbons Collection is being released in paperback on September 18th, 2012. I was fortunate enough to have obtained a free preview copy and I must say that I enjoyed it very much. Having watched several Doctor Who episodes while I was growing up, it was great to read these stories that are based around the Fourth Doctor, the Tom Baker years, because these are the years that I remember well. What is doubly nice is that IDW Publishing spent the time and money into restoring these old tales and adding color to them.
If the name Dave Gibbons sounds familiar, it should; he is best known for his work with Alan Moore in creating the critically acclaimed graphic novel Watchmen in addition to being the primary artist for Doctor Who Weekly and Doctor Who Monthly.
The collection not only includes an introduction by Dave Gibbons, but also includes early sketches and the following stories:
- The Iron Legion
- City of the Damned
- The Star Beast
- The Dogs of Doom
- The Time Witch
- Dragon's Claw
- The Collector
- Dreamers of Death
- The Life Bringer
- War of the Words
- Spider-God
- The Deal
- The Free-Fall Warriors
- The Neutron Knights
- The Tides of Time
- Stars Fell on Stockbridge
Whether you are an old fan of the Doctor Who Universe or are just getting started, this is a perfect collection for you that is timeless. I would recommend this graphic novel to anyone.
From the publisher:
Industry legend Dave Gibbons illustrated a classic run of Doctor Who comics, and this oversized book collects them all! And in full color! Gibbons-drawn strips began appearing the very first issue of Doctor Who Magazine (then titled Doctor Who Weekly), starring the Fourth Doctor as portrayed by Tom Baker, and Gibbons continued as the primary artist until issue #69, a Fifth Doctor tale. This volume also features an introduction by Gibbons, along with early Doctor Who sketches from the master.
