31 Days of Horror…Saw Movie Review!

SAW HEADER

Dr. Lawrence Gordon and Adam Faulkner-Stanheight wake up one evening to find themselves chained at opposite ends of a room with a dead body between them. Neither has any memory of how they got to the room nor why they are chained up in the first place. All they have are a bunch of clues left for them to solve the mystery and get themselves out of the room alive.

This is how the movie Saw begins and the fun doesn’t stop there. For the next hour and a half we are brought into the world of Jigsaw, a serial killer with a twist for his victims: follow the rules, play the game and you just might survive. Break the rules or hesitate and you will die. The objective: to determine just how much will you have to survive.

Written by Leigh Whannell and James Wan and directed by James Wan, this is the first horror movie that I have seen in a very long time where the ending made me want to stand right up in my seat and give a great big round of applause. Though the movie is known as being gory, the story is one that can withstand the merits of gore without going completely over the top. The same cannot be said for its many sequels but that is for another review…

Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell star as the two victims in the beginning and Danny Glover co-stars as the detective who is determined to find and capture Jigsaw. The film is what I like to call a wrap around story where we start at the beginning and then jump backwards in time as we gain the back story. We are brought back to the two men in the room from time to time as the story progresses and the clock runs out for their part in the game.

And speaking of ticking clocks…Halloween is just around the corner…Don’t lose hope now…Only 6 more days to go until the holiday!
