Every town has its quirks and Warren Valley, Ohio is no exception. They absolutely love Halloween and every year the town celebrates in style. But not everyone in the town celebrates the way tradition dictates and this year, Warren Valley gets a surprise visitor named Sam who watches multiple events unfold and punishes those who break tradition.

Written and directed by Michael Dougherty, Trick ‘r Treat stars Anna Paquin, Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Tahmoh Penikett and Brian Cox.

The movie begins showing the town and various players in the tales to follow before diving right in to the first tale: The Principal. Before you even know what happens the second tale swings into play following a group of teenagers who play a prank that goes wrong in The School Bus Massacre Revisited. Next up is Surprise Party where we follow the adventures of a young virgin who is hunting for her first…Then we backtrack a little and watch the story of Sam before wrapping everything up in the conclusion where events from the beginning are shown once more only with a better understanding of how each piece relates to the next.

This movie has become one of my holiday favorites. In the vein of Tales From the Crypt, Trick’or Treat features four short stories wrapped together into one anthology with one tale overlapping with the next. From the bizarre to the downright creepy, this movie will have you laughing at one moment and cringing at the next.
