A group of strangers travelling by bus are trapped after an auto accident strands them by the roadside. They are taken to a nearby house by a local man who warns them they need shelter for the coming storm. Once in the house they soon realize it is haunted and learn of the tragic events that transpired one hundred years ago when a young boy murdered his family.
The movie sounded interesting enough even if the plot line wasn’t one hundred percent original. Truth be told, I watched this today for one simple reason: Val Kilmer. Granted, his career of late has been filled with one b-rated flick after another but many of them are gems even if the directing falls short. Add to that another big star Ving Rhames and I figured it couldn’t be that bad over all. Sadly, not even these two could pull it off.
Written and directed by Kevin Carraway this movie was just flat out pathetic. One would think that a movie about a haunted house would be filled with more suspense and, oh yeah…ghosts. But aside from the occasional cliché image of the boy in the mirror and poorly directed scenes of the same little girl being killed in different rooms this movie didn’t deliver even one little “gotcha” scene. The reactions by the strangers to the so-called supernatural events were flat and only the brothers seemed to be believable characters.
As I am sitting here writing this review I have been trying to find just one little part of the film that may have been salvageable yet I am drawing a blank. In parting I leave you with the best advice I can manage: avoid this film at all costs. Please. Do yourself a favor and watch another b-rated film.
