On her way home after disproving multiple personalities exist in a murderer prior to his execution, Dr. Cara Jessop receives a phone call from her father asking her to see a patient of his. Cara meets the patient, David, and after a series of standard psychological tests, she confronts her father wondering why he brought her to him in the first place. It is then that she meets Adam, a seemingly separate personality. Furious at her father for his theatrics she begins to investigate in an effort to prove her father wrong.
Originally titled Shelter,
6 Souls was released for video on
demand with a limited theatrical release one month later. Written by Michael Cooney and directed by Måns
Mårlind and Björn Stein, 6 Souls
stars Julianne Moore as Dr. Cara Jessop with Jonathan Rhys Meyers starring as
Adam/David.
Cara’s investigation presents even more mysteries that I
won’t go into simply to avoid spoilers.
Suffice it to say, Cara’s faith is tested as she uncovers more about
David’s history. Truthfully, the plot
isn’t original but what sets this movie ahead of the crowd of good vs. evil is
the stellar performance of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Add to that the fact that this movie was
filmed in Pittsburgh
and you have a win win for this viewer.
Love it or hate it, I think this movie deserves watching and what better
month to curl up with the popcorn than the month of October.
