Cat’s Eye brings
to life three of Stephen King’s short stories in this anthology centering
around one cat and his desperate search to find a young girl who has been
psychically calling for help. The first
two stories, “Quitter’s, Inc.” and “The Ledge” are adaptations from King’s
short story collection Night Shift. The third story, “General,” is unique to the
movie and rounds out the tale of the cat who links all three stories together.
Written by Stephen King and directed by Lewis Teague, Cat’s Eye pulls together an excellent
cast with stars such as James Woods, Kenneth McMillan, Robert Hays and Drew
Barrymore as the young girl the cat is searching for throughout the movie. Cat’s
Eye blends together King’s tongue-in-cheek humor with a bit of the strange
thrown in for good measure. Though you
will not find any Oscar winning performances within, this movie does deliver in
sheer entertainment giving a lighter edge to the horror genre. This movie is fun for all ages and worthy of
being on my list of all time favorites.
As an added bonus, fans of Stephen King will also get a kick
out of this movie as it is laden with references to many of his other books
(namely: Cujo, Christine, Pet Semetary, Maximum Overdrive and The Dead
Zone).
