When I first saw Dog Soldiers
on the Sci Fi Network years ago it instantly became a favorite of mine and
still stands as one of the best werewolf movies that I have seen. Set in the Scotland Highlands, this little
gem of a movie is non-stop action from start to finish.
Written and directed by Neil Marshall, this British horror
film has been likened to such movie giants as Aliens, An American Werewolf in London, and, dare I
say it, Jaws. Though I’m not quite sure how other reviewers
can relate these films, I will say that what you see is what you get and the
movie is not trying to be anything but what it is. When you consider the basic plot is about a team
of six British soldiers on a routine training exercise who stumble upon a pack
of werewolves and try to survive the night, you can’t really expect there to be
a lot more to it than violence and vulgarity.
This is about survival. There
will be blood. But there is also some
humor thrown in there as well.
If you don’t mind a bit of gore in your repertoire and just
want to have some fun, this is your movie.
The cast of characters are entertaining enough even if the werewolf
costumes are a bit over the top.
