After their attempt to camp in the wild goes awry, boyfriend
and girlfriend Polly and Seth decide to rough it at a local motel instead. After packing up the campsite they begin to
drive toward town where they come across a girl at the side of the road. Concerned, Polly pulls over only to discover,
too late, that the girl was not alone.
Enter: Dennis, convicted criminal.
It really is turning out to be a terrible anniversary when
Dennis and Lacey take Polly and Seth captive instead of just stealing their
vehicle. As the foursome drive down the
road, Polly unwittingly hits an animal and gets a flat tire for her
efforts. While she and Dennis are
changing the tire, Seth and Lacey investigate the kill only to discover
something is definitely amiss…Fast forward a bit and their car soon overheats
due to the strange splinter-like projections from the critter that tore into
the vehicle upon impact. When they stop
at a nearby gas station, their anniversary goes from bad to worse in under two
minutes flat when they are attacked by something primordial and are forced to
lock themselves in the station in order to survive…
I first saw this movie when it was released and somehow
forgot about it. When perusing Netflix
for a suitable horror movie to review I stumbled upon it again and I am so
happy that I did! This movie has a
plausible plot line (who doesn’t believe cutting down 400 yr old trees could
unleash an unspeakable horror), believable characters, and enough *eww* and
*ick* factors interspersed with the creepy and jump scares that all horror fans
adore. If you have been avoiding this
for some unforeseen reason I recommend you change your opinion and give it a
shot – it is, after all, the count down to Halloween and there are worse things
you could do to spend your time.
