Book Review! Hunt the Wolf by Don Mann

Hunt the Wolf is the debut novel by renowned SEAL Team 6 commando Don Mann.  This military thriller is the first in a series and follows the lives of Thomas Crocker and his team as they track down a terrorist.

The book starts off with a bang as we are introduced to Crocker and his team as they fly into the Middle East on a covert mission.  They enter as mountain climbers yet they have another mission to accomplish first.  When the target they are sent to capture escapes, Crocker and his men continue to the climb while the bureaucrats determine their next move.  While on the climb Crocker is approached by an ambassador to the King of Norway and he is asked to look into the many disappearances of young girls, in particular, the kidnapping of a girl named Malie.  But nothing is ever as easy as it seems and more bureaucracy slows down the investigation.

It is at this part of the book, where Crocker and his men are climbing the mountain, that most reviewers find fault.  It is a moment of stasis and also a moment to delve into the mind of Crocker and discover what it is that drives him.  He is a man of action, he is not one to sit around and wait in a hotel room while negotiations are made and political strings are pulled.  He is driven by a need to move forward, to continually push the limits of his body and those of his team.  When the go ahead is finally given for him to search for Malie, the book becomes one non-stop adventure as both seemingly unrelated missions combine.

Overall I think this was a great debut novel and introduction to the series.  I was fortunate to receive a free copy of the book to review but would willingly pay for it.  Hunt the Wolf is a definite recommend for those seeking a good adventure story and/or military thriller.

Not to forget…here’s the excerpt from the publisher:

In the midst of a grueling training exercise, Thomas Crocker, USN, unearths a pocket of terrorism that leads straight from the slopes of K2 to the cities of Europe and the Middle East. Crocker and his team, who are trained for the most intense kinds of combat in the most extreme environments, must blaze through a perilous web of terrorist cells to track down a ruthless sheikh who is running an international kidnapping ring before his captives pay the ultimate price.
