It’s the eve of the annual Scarecrow Festival when police
Chief Kirkhoven receives word that an infamous serial killer has just escaped
from prison. While preparing for
thousands of tourists to arrive in the morning, the Chief and his Deputy search
the town for clues to the whereabouts of the convict. In their search, they discover four teenagers
have also gone missing.
Written and directed by Nicolas Smith, Munger Road
stars Bruce Davison as Chief Kirkhoven with Randall Batinkoff as Deputy Hendricks. Trevor Morgan and Brooke Peoples costar as
two of the teenagers who have had the misfortune of breaking down on Munger Road while
in search of proof of the supernatural.
Love it or hate it this is not a fast paced action thriller
or even a gore spattered horror film.
The story unfolds slowly as two separate events occur over the course of
the evening to ultimately convene at the ending. On one hand, we have the search by the police,
and the history of the infamous killer is revealed over time. On the other hand, we have a prank gone
suddenly wrong as the four teenagers are stranded on the road…and someone is in
the dark with them.
I for one loved this movie.
I thought it had a great story and I enjoyed the way that it was played
out. I felt the extremely dark scenes
didn’t need to be as dark but the worst part of the movie was the ending…Right
when the story seems to come to a head and the tension rises…”to be continued”
scrolls across the screen. As if to add
insult to injury…there are currently no plans to make part two as arguments
over financing ensue. I suppose we may
never know what truly happened that night on Munger Road…
