Movie Review! Edge of Tomorrow

Major William Cage never suspected he would be placed at the front lines when he enlisted with the NATO-led United Defense Forces (UDF) but that is exactly what happens when he is sent to London to serve under General Brigham.  Having never served in combat, Cage balks when he is ordered to cover the combat in France.  When he tries to escape his command, he is stripped of his rank and dropped in with the rest of the recruits as they prepare to face off with an alien race called the Mimics.  For Cage, his day goes from bad to worse as he is killed shortly after landing on the beach and wakes up to relive the same day over again.

Time loop films are far from original in today’s day and age however, few are able to pull it off convincingly.  Edge of Tomorrow is one of the rare movies to take this premise and create a film that is filled with action, suspense and more than enough humor to keep you entertained throughout.  Directed by Doug Liman, Edge of Tomorrow is based on a Japanese novel titled All You Need is Kill.  Tom Cruise stars as Cage with Emily Blunt co-starring as Sergeant Rita Vrataski, the legendary Angel of Verdun.   Rita not only helps Cage understand what is happening to him, but also trains him to be a better soldier with the hopes of making a tremendous strike against the Mimics and put an end to his day.

Despite positive reviews from critics surrounding this film, the movie has yet to make a splash money wise.  Being an avid sci-fi action junkie I find this surprising.  Truthfully, Edge of Tomorrow could quite possibly be the most entertaining movie I have seen this year and I have seen a lot.  The effects are remarkable, the acting genuine, and the storyline convincing.  Bill Paxton also co-stars as Master Sergeant Farell and his role, though short in comparison, is memorable and laugh-out-loud funny.

Blunt and Cruise definitely deliver a memorable movie that you will want to watch over and over again.  If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I highly recommend you make it to the box office to see the visuals on the widescreen.  You will not be disappointed.
