Deliver Us From Evil
is a new paranormal cop thriller from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director
Scott Derrickson. Based on real-life events
from New York City police officer Ralph Sarchie (based off his book titled Beware the Night) Deliver Us From Evil recounts the investigation of a series of
seemingly unrelated events that border on the supernatural. When Sarchie, runs out of conventional
solutions he seeks the help of an unconventional priest, Mendozza, to help him
solve his case.
Eric Bana stars as Ralph Sarchie alongside his partner
Butler, played by Joel McHale. Edgar
Ramirez co-stars as Mendoza with Olivia Munn co-starring as Ralph’s wife, Jen. Traditionally, movies about possessions do
nothing for me in the creep-factor, yet this one had me on edge throughout and
that is saying something. The movie has received
mixed reviews yet this viewer thought it was worth the watch. Though it is filled with some predictable
scares, overall the atmosphere was just down right creepy and the exorcism was
probably the best I’ve seen so far. Even
if you are not that into the paranormal side of the film, the investigation is
still worth watching and the actors do a fine performance throughout. Overall, this is a win.
