With my birthday this past week I had the opportunity to
cash in some birthday wishes and got a chance to see several new releases while
still in the theatre. One of these was
my highly anticipated viewing of Lucy
starring Scarlett Johnasson and Morgan Freeman.
Written and directed by Luc Besson, Lucy
follows the story of a young woman who was at the wrong place at the wrong time
and trusted the wrong person. This
ultimately led to her getting involved in a drug trafficking ring and so much
more…
I’m sure that upon viewing this movie scientists and mathematicians
are banging their heads against the wall or raising their fists in frustration
over the science presented and the possibilities outlined within the
movie. (I know…I’ve read quite a few
caustic reviews about this) And here is
where my usual response comes in: this
is a fictional story and not a
documentary…Let’s suspend some reality for a chance and sit back and enjoy the movie.
And enjoy it you should.
Lucy surprised many critics
when it outshined Hercules starring
Dwayne Johnson at the box office for their opening weekend and has given
Scarlett Johansson a much needed rise to fame in the action world following
her supporting role as Black Widow in the Avengers series.
Lucy takes the idea that we only use 10% of our brain and explores
the concept of what it would mean if we could understand and unlock 100% instead.
The abilities and understanding of the
world around us are explored in a fast paced beautiful style that fans of
Besson are accustomed to. If you haven’t
had an opportunity to see this yet, I highly recommend going now.
