Written and illustrated
by Mihara Gunya, Kamen, Vol 1 is the
story of a man who awakens in a field with a mask attached to his face. He is told by the entity that is the mask,
that if it is removed, he will die immediately but should he continue to wear
it, he will bear great power. Despite
the advice given to him by the mask, the man allows himself to be captured and
subsequently involved in a feudal war by first resurrecting, then defending a small girl.
Overall, I
thought the artwork was well done and the storyline progressed quickly. I’ve have often found in many manga’s that
differentiating between characters can be confusing; however, this is not the
case in Kamen. The characters are developed enough for the
first volume and the ending leaves you wanting to read more. Thankfully, I was also able to get an
advanced copy of Volume 2 so I will be reading that one shortly to find out
what happens next.
If you are a fan
of shonen manga, this would be a good title for you to pick up and a definite
recommend from me.
Here’s the
synopsis from the publisher:
In a world of fantasy and might, a lone warrior emerges. Kamen, a mysterious masked man appears among prisoners of war in ancient Japan and becomes a legendary warrior and defender of the innocent while his enemies rush to uncover his secrets.
