Strange things
are happening within the town of Barrow, Alaska on the last day of sunlight. Cell phones have been stolen and burned, the
town’s sled dogs have all been butchered, and a stranger has arrived. While many residents are leaving town, the
rest are settling in for their traditional 30 days of night. When the sun dips below the horizon, the
darkness and the cold are not the only concerns for Sheriff Eben Oleson and the
town of Barrow…for there are many others who have arrived and they are
hungry. Faced with an unimaginable horror,
a small handful of citizens band together with the Sheriff as they try to
survive until the sun rises.
Before the movie
was released, I was given a copy of the graphic novel to read by a friend. Though I wasn’t a fan of the art style
within, the story was remarkable and far outshined my snobbery on the
artwork. When the movie was released, I
was first in line to see it at the movie theatres. Though there are always changes to the film
adaptations, I still found the movie to be enjoyable and consider it one of my
favorites.
Directed by David
Slade, 30 Days of Night stars Josh
Hartnett as Sheriff Eben Oleson with Melissa George, Ben Foster, and Mark Boone
Junior. Danny Huston also co-stars as
Marlowe, the head vampire of the tale and resident show-stealer.
