31 Days of Horror – American Mary

Mary Mason is a struggling med student.  Strapped for cash and facing the prospect of having to drop out due to her lack of income, Mary decides one night to become a stripper at a club.  But fate would have it another way as the owner of the club is in a pinch and in need a doctor who will ask no questions.  The one time only procedure leads into a lucrative side business of body modification which helps Mary pay the rent, her phone bill and buy some groceries.  Without the need to worry about money, Mary begins to excel in her residency program and also gains the attention of a few surgeons.  When she is invited to a party hosted by her co-workers and professors, Mary realizes the glamour of medicine isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.  After being drugged and raped by her professor, Mary decides to take matters into her own hands.

This is a very powerful movie and I’m sorry that I waited so long to watch it.  The general description wasn’t enticing enough but Netflix deemed it a 4.5 expected rating from me and they were correct (as always).

Directed by the Soska sisters, Jen and Sylvia, American Mary stars Katharine Isabelle in the lead role of Mary.  Antonio Cupo, Tristan Risk, and Twan Holliday co-star.
