Oh, Netflix, it's frightening how well you know me…This movie has been
popping up in my recommend feed for some time and I have continually overlooked
it…Until today. And I have to say I
regret not pushing play sooner.
The Caller is a
suspense/horror film that crosses the line into the supernatural with a twist
on the fluidity of time. Rachelle
Lefevre stars as Mary Kee, a battered spouse who is currently undergoing a
divorce. She moves into a new apartment
and is taking classes yet her husband continues to make her life a living
hell. One her first day in the new
apartment, Mary receives a phone call from a woman who is searching for her
boyfriend. Believing it is a wrong
number, Mary disregards the call and the caller. But the caller will not be ignored and begins
to stalk Mary in her own twisted way and from her own time. You see, Rose, the woman on the other end of
the phone, is actually from the past, give or take 40 years.
Lorna Raver stars as Rose, the creepy caller, with Stephen
Moyer, Ed Quinn, and Luis Guzman co-starring.
The Caller was written by
Sergio Casci and directed by Matthew Parkhill.
If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I highly recommend it. The acting is superb and even in an age of
cell phones, this movie will make you run out and buy an answering machine for
screening calls.
