For day 2 of my 31 Days of Horror I bring you Insidious:
Chapter 2…Picking up right where the last one left off, this movie doesn’t
disappoint in both the creepy and the suspense categories. When we last left the Lambert family, Josh
had just returned from the further where he found and rescued his son. But this rescue did not come without a cost
and Elise is found dead in her chair.
Chapter 2 starts off with suspicions raised against Josh as
the perpetrator. Yet the police aren’t
the only ones suspicious of Josh’s behavior as strange occurrences continue to
happen leading Renai to wonder about what may have followed her husband and son
out of the further.
Directed by James Wan, Insidious: Chapter 2 stars Patrick
Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey in their returning roles of the Lambert
family. Lin Shaye, Steve Coulter, Leigh
Whannell, and Angus Sampson also reprise their roles as the story continues.
What I really enjoyed about both chapters of the movie was
the return to a more traditional portrayal of ghosts and the reactions of those
that encounter them. Each scene is
comprised with small nuances that heighten tension and are peppered with enough
camp to lighten the load a bit. Chapter
2 has more of a mystery surrounding the back-story, and, being a huge mystery
fan, I found this rather enjoyable.
If you haven’t seen either movie I would recommend starting
with the first one so that you know a bit more about what is going on in
Chapter 2. Chapter 3 is set to be
released sometime in 2015 (?) with the plot currently unreleased. The new movie will not focus on the Lambert’s,
so fans can rest easy knowing that plotline is complete.
