After watching her parents die in a car accident, Penny is
terrified of automobiles. Tired of
riding her bicycle everywhere, Penny seeks the help from a psychologist who
takes her on a road trip to the scene of the accident with the hope of curing
her. After nearly running a hitchhiker
over, they offer to give him a ride to a nearby camp. The hitchhiker is more than a little creepy
and the two try to put as much distance as possible between them. When their car becomes disabled and Penny is
trapped within, she finds that her fear of automobiles is the least of her
concerns as she endures a greater terror.
Directed by Richard Brandes, Penny Dreadful stars Rachel Miner as Penny Deerborn with Mimi
Rogers co-starring as her psychologist Orianna Volkes. Despite the fact that the majority of the
movie is filmed within the car, the movie focuses more on the tension that
Penny endures instead of a high body count like others of its ilk. This isn’t packed with action but it isn’t
boring either. A good tense thriller and
worthy of watching on the countdown to Halloween.
