It’s Halloween in South Bass and the Literary Ladies are
preparing to read the Legend of Sleepy
Hollow. But South Bass has a legend
of its own – “Sleepy” Harlow – the island’s infamous Prohibition bootlegger who
was decapitated by his rivals is said to haunt the local winery. As Halloween draws near, a group of ghost
hunters, Elkhart Ghost Getters (EGG,) come to the island to investigate while
staying at Bea Cartwright’s B&B. Bea’s
good friend Kate isn’t happy about their return and when the head EGG member
turns up dead, it’s Kate who is the lead suspect and Bea must investigate to
clear her friend’s good name and solve the mystery.
Though the book is the third in the series it is the second
one I’ve read and does a much better job than its predecessor on catching you
up with the previous books. Though many
characters are stereotypical and the drama that plays out is a bit over the
top, the book is still a fast and fun read for anyone who loves cozy
mysteries. I pegged the culprit from the
start but I will admit I didn’t guess the motive.
Overall well liked and I will definitely keep reading the
series! (and may someday track down the
first book just to have read them all)
