A screenwriter for horror films rents an old house in the
middle of nowhere as he attempts to break a writer’s block and get a new
screenplay done. With the house comes a
catch: a blind old woman lives on the third floor (essentially the attic). While staying there, he has vivid, violent
dreams and strange occurrences begin happening at night. Is it the old lady roaming the house at
night? Or is it more sinister?
Truthfully, the plot is far from original but that has never
stopped a movie from being good. All
haunted house movies start off slow and the suspense is meant to build. This doesn’t seem to happen in this
movie. At all.
To be fair, the movie lost my interest about halfway through
and I started working on projects while the film played in the background. The character’s ultimate discovery and the
big reveal at the end wasn’t much of a discovery. I would wager even a novice at horror would
be able to decipher the ending of this one.
I will say the highlights of the movie dealt with the dreams the writer had. Unfortunately, they had no bearing on the
plot that I could see and were pretty much pointless.
Overall, I can’t say that I would recommend this one. Everyone has different tastes. If you have a high threshold for slow and
drawn out films, or merely want to watch one where the guy lives alone and
meets a girl then this is for you.
