Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson star as Amy and David Fox, a
young couple whose marriage is on the path to divorce. One night, while on a long road trip home,
their car breaks down and they become stranded.
The isolated patch of road is out of cell phone range and they must back
track to a secluded motel to spend the night.
But their marital problems become the least of their concerns when they
discover video tapes of the murders of prior guests. Trapped with only themselves to trust, the
two must not only escape, but also survive the night.
Vacancy is one of
my guilty pleasures. I have a soft spot
for survival movies and this is one of the better ones. The action starts very close to the beginning
of the movie and is pretty much non-stop throughout. The cast is superb and deliver a convincing
portrayal that ranges from the discovery, denial, and ultimately strong urge to
survive. Amy and David Fox are not your
run of the mill victims, but rather make some intelligent decisions (if not
all), and lead the viewer to believe they are real people and not just fictional
characters.
If for some reason you still haven’t seen this movie, I
recommend you give it a try. It delivers
pure entertainment and also ensures you steer clear of those out of the way
motels run by shady characters.
