Jeri Ryan stars as Rachel, a recently divorced, mother of two, who is trying desperately to make it on her own. After landing a really good job, with an extremely long commute, she stumbles upon a beautiful house for sale that is going for an extremely low price. It's definitely a fix-er-upper, but her brother is a contractor, and she can't resist. While doing renovations, they unwittingly release the spirit of a young girl who had died in the house many years before. When her eldest daughter begins exhibiting strange behavior, she turns to a co-worker for help.
I know what you're thinking...this plot again? Truth be told, it is difficult to find a ghost story that doesn't revolve around this premise. Originality of the basic outline isn't the goal any more. How you go about the rest of the film - characters, dialogue, over-all atmosphere - that is the clincher. (And, don't forget, this was a Lifetime original movie).
That being said, I love Lifetime movies. Ultimately, they center around family, and this movie is no exception.
Kay Panabaker and Peyton List co-star as the two daughters with one of my all-time favorite stars, Marianne Jean-Baptiste co-starring as Rachel's co-worker. Together, they offer a compelling cast. Originally, I caught this film on Netflix a few months back and never did get around to reviewing it. It's stuck with me since then so I felt the need to do one now. This is a great Saturday afternoon, or rainy day movie. I'm not sure if it's still on instant for Netflix, but it is out for sale on DVD at a great price.
