After a bizarre string of events unleashes an other-worldly evil, a group of high school kids run for their lives through the swamps of Louisiana in this 2005 horror movie that is reminiscent of the slasher films of the late '80's. Venom is a pretty straightforward slasher film and, despite the multitude of poor reviews, is quite entertaining. While many criticized the harsh editing of the kill scenes, I found them effective. The murky, mist-shrouded, backwater town was a perfect setting for the movie and helped deliver some creepy elements. The voodoo laden mythology within added to the atmosphere even if it didn't add any credence to the plot.
All in all I found this movie quite entertaining and I am surprised it didn't earn any sequels. If hum-drum absurd films (such as Jeepers Creepers) can get a sequel, Venom certainly deserved at least one.
