Following shortly on the heels of Extraterrestrial, I thought I would try yet another science fiction yarn about a group of mercenaries sent to infiltrate an old Soviet facility. Their mission is to escort a scientist into the facility and obtain the information within. What they find, is much more than they bargained for.
The movie starts off reminiscent of an old 1940's war movie and continues to have that feeling throughout as the mercs make their way through the Soviet state to access the underground facility. Once inside, the movie resembles a poorly made Resident Evil offspring with a few other movies thrown in for good measure.
Overall, the movie wasn't terrible. It rates lower on my scale simply for the failure to convince me this group of mercs knew what they were doing. Their actions are anything but professional, and for a so-called 'seasoned' team, they make every rookie mistake in the book. Overall, the science fiction part wasn't terrible and the ending certainly made up for the rest of the movie.
Directed by Billy O'Brien, Hybrid (Scintilla) stars John Lunch, Morhana Alaoui, and Craig Conway.
