I started reading this book back in May before I realized it was the second in a series. I stopped immediately, tracked down the first book, then finally got a chance to get back to this one. The first book, The Edge of Normal, introduces our main character, Reeve LeClaire. Reeve is a survivor of a child abduction and was held for several years while being raped and tortured. The first book picks up six years after her freedom as she is called upon to help another victim.
In this book, What Doesn't Kill Her, Reeve is faced with the impossible - her captor of four years escapes from prison and Reeve is sucked right back into the investigation. With help from the now retired FBI agent who investigated her case, Reeve races against time to find the man who held her prisoner before he can find another young girl.
Whereas I felt this book was a lot better then the first book, it still lacked a lot of the suspense that is necessary for a mystery/thriller. Her treatment of the characters was definitely better and less stand-offish like the first one. The investigation was treated remarkably well, however I thought the ending was a little rushed in comparison. Overall, not a bad read. With the improvement over the first book, I'm sure the next one in the series will be even better!
