Written with the possibility of becoming another trilogy, Scream 4 picks up 10 years after the last movie. Our main character Sidney has redefined her life by choosing to not be a victim, and has become a successful author instead. Also returning to the franchise are Dewey and Gale, happily married for ten years.
Where the previous movies all had an underlying premise, Scream 4 hits hard at the industry's penchant for remakes. Four years after the fact, and a multitude of classic horror films remade from Hollywood, I couldn't help but snicker at the mocking tone. Sadly, Hollywood did not take notice of this theme and has pushed full force into remaking practically everything...but digress.
Definitely not as good as the first three, I still feel it's important to watch just to keep track of where our favorite characters have gone. With the launch of the new television series, and Wes Craven's passing, who knows what the future will hold for this franchise. If we are lucky, they will allow it to end and not run it into the ground as has occurred with other series. I suppose, in the end, only time will tell.
