Egads it's been forever since I have done anything with this blog! Life has been...complicated. Time to get back on track!
Today's movie while I painted was The House on Willow Street. Simple enough setup: a group of criminals set to kidnap the daughter of a diamond dealer in the hopes that they will score big and get out of the criminal business. What they don't realize, of course, is that the girl they kidnap is anything but a victim.
While not a bad movie overall, there were many overdone elements that were definite eye rolling opportunities. Fans of the TV show Supernatural will recognize the protective mother plot point at the end who conveniently shows up while there is the tongue brigade taunting her daughter. And on that point, what was up with the tongues? They were laughable at best and the movie would have fared much better without them.
As with most demon possession movies, the plot started off strong and then fell apart quickly. It's unfortunate the writers didn't take cues from movies such as The Exorcist and Event Horizon to salvage the ending and come out on top stronger. Still, it's much better than most horror movies made today and was worth the watch.
