31 Days of Horror! Alice, Sweet Alice

After a young girl is brutally murdered during her first communion, her strange and withdrawn older sister becomes the main suspect.
Young Alice thought growing up in her sister, Karen's, shadow was hard enough until one day Karen is murdered and Alice becomes the number one suspect.  After her Aunt is brutally attacked, only her parents believe her innocence yet it isn't enough to keep her from being sent to a local shelter for troubled youths.  Determined to clear their daughter's name, her parents continue to investigate on their own.

Originally titled Communion, Alice, Sweet Alice co-stars Brooke Shields in her film debut.  Co-written and directed by Alfred Sole, the movie is heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock and the 1973 film Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg.  Though the movie lacks some of the panache of modern day slasher films, it still stands as a solid mystery, even up to the final credits.

I grew up on horror movies and slasher films are one of my top favorite sub-genres.  Oddly enough, I had never seen this movie until tonight.  I have to say I rather enjoyed it and may have to re-visit a few of my favorite slasher films from this decade.  All in all, this was a fun romp and only three more days to go until Halloween!
