31 Days of Horror! Dark Mirror

A photographer moves her family into a strange old house, where she discovers an alternate reality reflected in the glass... A dark reality that is closing in on her.
This movie has a lot of hits and misses throughout but it is intriguing enough to keep the viewer watching.  There is enough mystery spun throughout to keep you guessing: is the house haunted, is there an alternate reality, or are we just witnessing the main character having a psychotic break?

If you've seen enough horror movies, you will definitely notice similarities drawn to a number of films surrounding mirrors and photographs.  What I was reminded of most while watching it though was the book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.  At one point, I was hoping the movie had been loosely based on the book, but with the intention of improving the concept and delving more into the horror aspect that the book only hinted at.  Much like the book though, this movie hints at something great while ultimately falling short of it's intended target.

Overall, this was an easy thriller to watch and perfect for a rainy day.  The lead actress, Lisa Vidal, definitely carries the movie and her performance alone makes it worth watching.
