Series Review! Fate: The Winx Saga, Season 1

Remember the cute cartoon that aired way back in 2004?  Well you can pretty much forget about that with this live action retelling of the popular characters that aired on Netflix at the end of January 2021.

To be honest, I didn't really watch the cartoon.  I may have seen one or two episodes but (those episodes at least) seemed more focused on relationships and the eternal battle of the good vs bad with the boys in-between.  I'm sure there was more to it...It wouldn't have been on the air for 15 years if it were that basic.  I'm just saying it didn't draw my attention as an adult way back when.  But, seeing a live action version available...I was certainly intrigued.

Fate: The Winx Saga begins when Bloom, our main character, starts her first year at Alfea, a school in the Otherworld for faeries to learn how to cultivate their powers.  Bloom was raised on Earth and only found out she was a fairy when she pretty much burned down her family home (small spoiler but not a significant plot point on the surface).  Being the new girl is hard enough but it becomes a bit harder when you're learning about another realm and tackling newly discovered powers.

The season is short (only 6 episodes) and they pack a bunch into the short time period.  Thankfully, it's not overloaded nor brushed over, simply fast moving.  A lot of questions are answered and even more are presented by the time the season ends.

What I liked: the characters.  They really are pretty well developed and ones you can stand behind and want to see succeed (not to mention know more about).

What I didn't like: It was really hard to imagine these characters as 16 years old.  They all look and act their true age (which is in the 20's).  The youngest looking character/actress is actually 27 in real life.  Even the 19 year old actress looked in her 20's so yeah...that was a stretch.

Is this show binge-worthy?  Absolutely with a capital A!

Am I anxiously waiting for season 2 to air?  See above answer...
