Movie Review! The Silencing

When the body of a young girl is found with her voice box removed, Sheriff Gustafson (Annabelle Wallis) starts an investigation into the murder. Reknowned hunter & town drunk, Rayburn Swanson (Nikolaj Costar-Waldau), visits the morgue to determine if it's his daughter, Gwen, who went missing five years prior.  Though Rayburn is currently divorced and running a reserve named after Gwen, he continues to put up flyers hoping for her return. Though he never gave up drinking,  in her memory he did give up hunting and spends his days keeping poachers off his land.

One night his dog Thor, who spends his day watching monitors, begins barking to alert Rayburn of a human on their land.  (And no, I did not make that up). When Rayburn discovers it's a young girl being "hunted" on his land, he sets out to save her.

Though I did enjoy this movie overall, I will admit,  it's one where you need to turn your brain off and just watch it for what it is. If you try to make sense of it, you'll be disappointed. If you apply logic to their actions and want tidy explanations for the many varied plot lines and character developments that never develop, you won't find any.  I think the only saving grace is Zahn McClarnon who plays Karl Blackhawk (even if his role is small).
