Vivien has worked hard to become the "#1 girl" and advance to Level 16. Soon, she and the other girls will be ready for adoption and will be able to leave their boarding school. At least, this is what she has been raised to believe. When she runs into an old friend, Sophia, not seen since Level 10, Vivien begins to question everything about their existence and overall purpose in the school.
Level 16 delivers a perfect dystopian society where the girls are taught the virtues of being a woman. Namely, passivity and obedience. When Vivien takes her first step toward defiance, the veil is lifted and she begins seeing things for how they truly are.
This is a definite slow burn. Though the story may be a tad predictable, the characters are engaging enough to keep you entertained throughout. Though this does rank in the scifi genre, the sheer level of control (and ultimate end game for the girls) makes this movie horrific on a totally different level (no pun intended). I felt this was certainly worth the watch, and a nice addition to my countdown to Halloween!
