31 Days of Horror! Madres

Rounding out the last of the Blumhouse Television movies that I watched on Amazon Prime is Madres.  I watched this awhile ago and have been wanting to write a review that does it justice. This won't be it because I truly cannot put into words how horrified I was at the ending.  This is just something that needs to be seen.

In summary, the story revolves around a young Mexican-American couple who relocate to a small farming community. Why? Well, it's the 1970's, she's pregnant, and her employee laid her off. Her husband is newly promoted and this is a fresh new start for the two of them. Being at home, Diana stumbles upon the belongings of the previous owner and suspect their house is haunted. She begins doing research and discovers the women in their new community have not been able to deliver babies. All believe there is a curse, but Diana begins to suspect something far more sinister is at play.

And here's where there will be spoilers...So stop reading and go watch the movie. Or continue reading at your own risk.

As a ghost story, the movie was rather slow. This is definitely more of a drama and may recieve better ratings if it had been billed as such. As it stands, the ghost story comes second.  What's horrifying is the discovery that the women were being poisoned to insure they did not carry to term. Add to this, the doctor was sterilizing the woman under the National Eugenics Movement and using the "curse" as a cover.
