31 Days of Horror: Finders Keepers (2014)

Finders Keepers is the kind of film that delivers exactly what you'd expect from a SyFy original. Directed by Alexander Yellen, the movie follows a divorced mother and her young daughter who move into a new home, only to discover an unsettling presence in the form of an evil doll left behind by the previous owners.

The premise is nothing groundbreaking, but the film manages to keep viewers entertained with its eerie atmosphere and creepy doll trope. What sets Finders Keepers apart from more laughable horror flicks like the Chucky series is the decision not to show the doll or entity doing the actual killing. This choice adds a layer of suspense that works in the film's favor, leaving the horrors up to the viewer's imagination rather than relying on cheesy effects. While the movie certainly has a few glaring plot holes, it never takes itself too seriously and sticks to its formula.

Overall, Finders Keepers fits perfectly into the niche of B-horror films ideal for a fun scare. It's engaging enough to hold your attention for its runtime, and its flaws don’t detract too much from the experience. For fans of SyFy’s campy style and those compiling a lineup for 31 Days of Horror, this film makes for a solid, if predictable, addition.
