Set during a university’s pledge week, Initiation
kicks off with the shocking murder of a star athlete, sending the campus into
panic. As the body count rises, a wave of sinister social media messages drives
both students and police into a race to uncover the dark secret hiding within
the school.
This one definitely has its moments. The setup is
intriguing, and the commentary on technology and campus culture feels timely.
There are some solid kill shots that deliver for slasher fans, and the overall
atmosphere keeps things tense enough to stay invested.
Where it falters, though, is in the reveal. The payoff
doesn’t land quite as hard as the buildup promises. Whether that’s a
generational style choice or just a misstep in execution, it leaves the finale
feeling underwhelming compared to the ride getting there.
Still, Initiation isn’t without merit. If you’re in the mood for a modern college-set slasher with a few creative kills, it’s worth checking out—even if the ending won’t blow you away.
