31 Days of Horror: Day 2 — Aftermath (2021)

For today’s pick, I went with something a little different: Aftermath (2021). While it doesn’t lean heavily into gore or traditional scares, it brings its own flavor to the horror genre—one that mixes suspense, mystery, and psychological tension.

Movie Description:
Desperate to save their marriage, a young couple takes a deal and moves into their dream home, but disturbing events reveal the house’s troubled history.

My Review:
This movie has gotten a lot of bad reviews, but honestly? I just don’t see it. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I thought Aftermath was a fun blend of different tropes tossed together in a way that kept me interested. It’s definitely more on the mystery/thriller side of horror, and that may explain why some horror fans weren’t impressed. But if you go in expecting suspense, twists, and a creeping sense of unease rather than constant jump scares, it delivers.

I found myself enjoying the ride, especially as the layers of the house’s troubled history unraveled. It might not reinvent the wheel, but it’s a solid watch if you’re looking for something a little more grounded in the thriller category during spooky season.

Aftermath won’t be for everyone, but for me, it earned its spot on the list.
