AMC+ has been delivering some surprising gems lately, and Night of the Reaper (2025) is no exception. What could have easily been another “babysitter horror” retread ended up impressing me far more than I expected.
Movie Description:
College student Deena visits home and is roped into babysitting. The local sheriff is mailed a piece of evidence and is led on a scavenger hunt to reveal the killer of another babysitter.
My Review:
Man, was I impressed with this one. It starts out with your typical babysitter trope for the initial kill that sets the story in motion, but then it pivots and keeps you hooked. The tension ramps up as we pick back up with a new babysitter and a killer stalking her, blending slasher familiarity with a clever narrative twist.
The ending was brilliant—so much so that I actually applauded. It’s rare for a modern slasher to stick the landing this well, but Night of the Reaper nails it. Very well done, with excellent execution (no puns intended).
This one’s a must-watch for slasher fans and an easy highlight of the season.
