I Am Mother tells the story of an A.I., simply known as Mother, who has been created to grow and nurture a young child from an embryo into full maturation. We are drawn into Daughter's life as she ages. We witness her skills at dance, her proclivity to watch reruns of old talk shows, and her scheduled life in taking tests and further her education. As Daughter reaches her teenage years, she is faced with her largest test of all when she discovers another human outside of their isolated shelter.
It is difficult to give a review for this movie without revealing too many plot points. The above paragraph already gives much away, as does the trailer for the film. What I will say, is that Netflix has once again produced an amazing science fiction movie.
Yes, there are multiple moments while watching this that the movie feels familiar. There are parallels to several other books and movies in the same genre. However, none of the similarities are enough to prevent the viewer from being drawn in. Though the movie could be described as being predictable to a point, the plot twists and revelations were enough for this viewer to mentally run with the insinuations and leave feeling one hundred percent satisfied. (And admittedly with a yearning to watch it again with a new perspective.)
