Beacon Point follows Drake, an ex-convict turned trail guide, who leads a group of hikers deep into the Appalachian mountains. What starts as a routine trek quickly unravels when the group strays off course and stumbles upon a dark secret hidden in the wilderness. From there, things spiral into a strange mix of terror, mystery, and the surreal.
This movie wasn’t what I expected at all. Instead of
sticking with straightforward backwoods horror, it dives into psychological and
sci-fi territory, weaving dreamlike sequences into the story. That choice makes
it a bit of a mind trip, keeping you second-guessing what’s real and what
isn’t.
On the downside, the characterization leaves something to be
desired. Most of the hikers don’t get enough development to really make you
care about them, which lessens the impact when things take a darker turn.
Still, the film’s eerie atmosphere and unique spin on the genre carry it
further than I anticipated.
Overall, Beacon Point is a solid addition to sci-fi
horror—flawed in places, but intriguing enough to keep your attention and leave
you unsettled by the time the credits roll.
