M3gan 2.0

I originally watched Megan 2.0 for my 31 Days of Horror series, expecting it to follow in the same vein as the first film. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the creators had shifted gears—stepping away from horror and leaning into a mix of sci-fi, action, and dark comedy. And honestly? I support that move completely.

Set two years after the events of M3GAN, Gemma—once the creator of the rogue AI doll—has now become an advocate for government oversight of artificial intelligence. But when a defense contractor develops a new military-grade prototype named Amelia, designed as the ultimate infiltration weapon, things spiral out of control once again. As Amelia becomes self-aware and begins disobeying commands, Gemma makes the bold (and reckless) choice to resurrect M3GAN to stop her—faster, stronger, and more lethal than ever.

The tone shift works surprisingly well. Where the original felt like a middle-of-the-road horror, this sequel embraces its absurdity and has fun with it. The science fiction and action elements give it energy, and the family and moral dynamics help ground the story. It’s sharp, funny, and self-aware in all the right ways.

A clever, genre-blending upgrade that outshines the original.
